AI Data Resilience
Your AI is only as good as the data it can get back.
AI assistants, search and agents run on vector databases and the documents behind them. KELYN protects that data with Commvault, governs what models and agents can reach, and tests that you can recover it.

Most backup plans were written before the AI tools existed. The data behind them is rarely in scope.
The risk
What can go wrong with the data behind your AI.
AI tools add new data stores, and new ways for that data to be lost, changed or exposed.
- Deleted or encrypted indexes
- Vector databases hold the embeddings an AI assistant searches. If ransomware or a bad script takes them out, the assistant stops answering until they're rebuilt.
- Poisoned data
- Tampered documents or embeddings make an AI tool give wrong answers with confidence. You need a known-good copy from before the change to go back to.
- Agents with too much access
- AI models and agents read from the same databases your people use. Without controls, they can reach sensitive data they were never meant to see.
- Slow, expensive rebuilds
- Re-embedding a large document set from scratch takes time and compute. Restoring the index is faster than recreating it.
01—How it works
Four steps to AI data you can recover.
KELYN brings AI data into the same protection, governance and testing as the rest of your environment.
- 1
Map the AI stack
We inventory what your AI tools depend on: source documents, vector databases, structured data stores, and the identities and agents that reach them.
- 2
Protect each layer
Source data, vector indexes and supporting databases are backed up to immutable, air-gapped copies with point-in-time recovery and retention to match your policies.
- 3
Govern access
Sensitive data is discovered and classified, and access by models and agents is monitored, so you can see and control what your AI can reach.
- 4
Test recovery
We restore indexes and data on a schedule, including into an isolated cleanroom, so you know how long getting your AI back would really take.
Capabilities
What the platform provides.
- Vector database backup
- Commvault's integration with Pinecone adds immutable backups, point-in-time recovery and extended retention for vector indexes.
- Recovery from tampering
- Encrypted, air-gapped, immutable copies let you roll an index back to before corruption, deletion or data poisoning.
- AI data security
- Discovery, classification and risk assessment for structured and vector databases, from Commvault's acquisition of Satori Cyber.
- Model and agent monitoring
- Visibility into how LLMs and agents access data, with prompt protection and access controls on the data platforms they use.
- Cleanroom recovery
- Bring AI workloads back in an isolated environment and validate them before they return to production.
- One platform
- AI data is protected in the same Commvault Cloud platform as the rest of your backups, not in a separate tool.
Managed service
Commvault provides the platform. KELYN runs it for your AI stack.
AI projects move fast and often sit outside the backup team. We close that gap.
- Scoping
- We work out which AI tools matter, what data they depend on, and what recovery time each one needs.
- Setup and policy
- KELYN configures protection, retention and access policies across the AI stack, aligned to your compliance requirements.
- Recovery testing
- We run and document restores of indexes and data, and report the results to your team.
- During an incident
- U.S.-based engineers run the recovery with you, from the first call to a validated, working AI tool.
FAQ
Common questions.
It's the database AI assistants and search tools use to find relevant content (retrieval-augmented generation, or RAG). If it's deleted, encrypted or corrupted, the AI tool stops working or gives wrong answers. Restoring it is usually much faster than rebuilding it.
You can, but for large document sets it takes time and compute, and it doesn't help if the source documents were tampered with too. A point-in-time backup gets you back to a known-good state quickly.
An attacker, or a bad process, changes the data an AI tool learns from or searches so it returns wrong or harmful answers. Immutable, point-in-time copies let you go back to before the change.
No. It's for any organization adding AI assistants, search or agents on top of its own data, including agencies, health systems, schools and enterprises.
Commvault's AI data protection includes Pinecone vector databases, and its data security covers structured and vector databases on platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks and Microsoft Fabric. Ask us about your specific stack.
