What it does

Commvault Cloud for Government is Commvault's SaaS backup and recovery for public-sector organizations and the contractors that hold their data. It runs on Azure Government and covers the same kinds of workloads as commercial Commvault Cloud, such as Microsoft 365 in GCC and GCC High tenants, endpoints, virtual machines, databases and files.

Its authorizations are the reason to choose it: Commvault lists FedRAMP Class D (High) certification, GovRAMP High authorization and FIPS 140-3 validated encryption. For defense contractors, a cloud service that stores CUI has to meet FedRAMP Moderate or an equivalent under DFARS 252.204-7012, and High exceeds that.

Key facts

  • Listed on the FedRAMP Marketplace at Class D (High), certified May 2024, with the U.S. Treasury as the initial agency.
  • GovRAMP High authorization was announced in April 2025.
  • Since September 2026, Commvault offers it to qualified U.S. managed service providers.
  • Commvault states it meets DoD Impact Level 5 requirements for CUI; that's Commvault's statement, not a DISA provisional authorization.
  • Clumio is listed separately as FedRAMP Moderate Ready, which isn't an authorization.
