How do Commvault releases work?
Commvault ships Innovation releases monthly, each supported for two months, and a Long-Term Support release once a year, supported for two and a half years. Most organizations should stay on LTS.
- Delivered as
- Software releases numbered 11.x
What it does
Innovation releases bring new features quickly but are supported only briefly, so running one commits you to upgrading often. Long-Term Support (LTS) releases come once a year and get monthly maintenance releases with fixes for their first two years.
Commvault recommends installing the latest maintenance release within two weeks of it coming out. The older year-based names, such as 2023E and 2024E, are no longer used; 2024E is the same release as 11.36.
Key facts
- As of November 2026, the LTS releases are 11.44 (supported to December 2028), 11.40 (to December 2027) and 11.36 (to June 2027).
- 11.46, released July 2026, is an Innovation release.
- 11.32 (2023E) reached end of life in June 2026.

- CommServeThe CommServe is the central server of a Commvault environment. It schedules and tracks every job and holds the database of configuration, security and backup history, so no restore can start without it.
- Command CenterCommand Center is Commvault's web console for setting up and running backups, restores, storage and security. It replaced the older Java CommCell Console for most work.
- Backup plansA backup plan bundles what to back up, how often, where copies go and how long they're kept. It replaced storage policies, and was called a server plan before release 11.38.
